MEET LISA PALMER

LEADING WITH A FRESH PERSPECTIVE IN LOWER GEORGETOWN

I believe in this world, you get what you give.  And I believe that if you have ideas about how to make your neighborhood better, it is your responsibility to GET INVOLVED!  With that in mind, I am delighted to announce my candidacy to represent lower Georgetown on the ANC for a second term.

Having spent many years working for KaBOOM! - a national nonprofit based around volunteer-led community building, I have been immersed in the movement to engage folks in their own neighborhoods and make real change.  An avid volunteer, I currently sit on the Board of Directors for an international nonprofit (UNICEF) and a DC pre-school (National Child Research Center) and just recently stepped down from my six year service as a Board Member at a national education based nonprofit (Charter Board Partners).  Most importantly, my work as an ANC Commissioner has allowed me to advocate for my neighbors and friends in lower Georgetown, helping to make this community - our community - its best.

I moved to Washington, DC in 2002 and while many of our friends were choosing to move to the suburbs to raise their families, my family, like many others, chose to commit to the District. We wanted to live in an urban, vibrant and walkable neighborhood - and we continue to be delighted by our decision to grow roots in Georgetown, where we moved in 2012.  Furthermore, my family has deep roots in Northwest DC - my Grandfather was born here and my Grandmother moved here when she came to this country as a young child. We are thrilled to carry on my family's tradition of contributing to this wonderful city!

Since joining the ANC, I have spoken with many neighbors and I'm grateful for everyone's view on the strengths and challenges of living in Georgetown. Armed with this generous feedback and my own personal experience of living in this community, I look forward to continuing to build upon all of the wonderful things that make Georgetown special and working with the appropriate authorities to thoughtfully lead on improving those elements that are shared challenges.  Furthermore, I look forward to hearing more from YOU about what you think makes Georgetown great - as well as those things that need to change.  In my first term, we were able to make some significant changes happen but we certainly are not done!  Please click here to learn more about my platform, which includes addressing the following:

Or, you can always email me at 2e05@anc.dc.gov - I assure you that I will address your concerns.  I also look forward to holding Meet and Greet events over the coming weeks so I can get to know you better.

I hope I will earn your trust and I hope to earn your vote this coming November.  Thank you, in advance, for your serious consideration and support.
